Scandinavia Trip: Sweden Ancestry Part One

Onto the last leg of our trip, Sweden! We started with a little drive from Norway to Sweden. This girl figured out when to sleep and when she needed to be awake.

Shortly after we pulled into Sweden, Matt couldn't wait to do some ancestry hunting. We stopped at a church and he looked at gravestones throughout the cemetery.

Oreos were one of Ramsey's favorite food this fall!

We made it to our Air B&B and they recommended a restaurant at a nearby hotel. I felt a little out of place with a baby, it seemed very fancy and QUIET! Ramsey did a great job!

We had the most amazing dinner! I was not expecting great food in Sweden based on the other Swedish dishes I have had. I was greatly surprised. The best food we ate on the whole trip was in Sweden!

After we ate, we walked a trail along the lake.

She tried really hard to run into the water!

Matt climbed up onto the high dive.

Love my little tribe!

We headed to the grocery store to grab a few things.

We stayed in a basement apartment near the lake.

Ramsey was happy to be able to explore the place.

They also had lots of toys she really enjoyed, particularly the drum!

Matt and I had done a little bit of research about our respective ancestries. I was able to get in contact with some relatives of mine that still live in Sweden. We met, Britt, at her home which coincidentally was about 15 minutes from our apartment. She became our tour guide for the day. Our first stop was to see the rok runestone

Britt quickly fell in love with Ramsey! They watched some school kids playing outside. I was mostly shocked at all the games they are still allowed to play. It looked like fun, but I know sadly, that would not fly in the US.

Britt brought a fika for us to enjoy.

Ramsey was feeling very brave!

She found a little boy to play with while we ate.

Britt then took us to the place where my great, great grandfather grew up.
Britt knocked on the door to see if the man that lived there was home. Last time she took a group of family there, he was home so they were able to see inside. Unfortunately, he was not there.

We took a few pictures out front.

The front porch piece was added on, so the very large family lived in the one room building!

We walked around the property.

I could not imagine walking across the yard in the middle of winter to use the outhouse!

We walked across the road to the old barn.

This was such a cool experience!

Matt so badly wanted to drive on a desolate dirt road in the middle of nowhere, Sweden. Here we are doing just that!

We stopped to check out a few churches. They are very well maintained!

Britt took us to the church they attend, Habo Church, aka the wooden cathedral.

The bell tower.

It is obvious to see where it gets its name. The entire thing is made of wood and painted beautifully!

There are gorgeous murals throughout the entire place.

Hope you were wanting to see every inch of this place because I don't think I missed a thing!

We enjoyed another amazing Swedish meal at Britt's house that she prepared for us. We greatly enjoyed their hospitality!

Britt made a fun collage of our day. It is a day I will never forget!
