Alaska Valdez

Ok, I'm back for a couple more Alaska posts-finally!
After our trip to Wrangell-St. Elias, we didn't have much planned. We basically had two full days before our plane left. We chose to take one day to drive back towards Anchorage and made a stop in Valdez along the way.

These two had a great time wandering around the boardwalk.

There were hardly any people there. It was very nice and peaceful.

We met two couples hanging out in Valdez who were on a very similar trip as us. We were able to get a couple family photos from them.

There are tons of beautiful waterfalls along the road to Valdez so we stopped and took some photos near some of them.

We tried to get a few pictures of the beautiful scenery we drove past.

We made a stop at the Worthington Glacier.

Smiley Stanton!

Beautiful views in both directions!

Matt climbed up a little further to get closer to the glacier.

As we continued our journey back to Anchorage, we found another really cool glacier.

This one extended for what seemed like miles and miles. We got there too late, but you can go out and touch this one.

We never wanted to take for granted all the glaciers we got to see!

I have one more Alaska post to share. We will see how long it takes me to get it done!

Alska-Wrangell St. Elias NP and Kennecott Copper Mine

Long time no post from our Alaska trip!! I have a couple more days to share. Let's see if I can remember any details!
On this day we headed into Wrangell St. Elias National Park to go check out the former Kennecott Copper Mine. Wrangell St. Elias is (I believe) the largest National Park and one of the least visited.

We spotted a brown bear near the road.

The glaciers were just unreal.

We could only go so far, and then there was a bridge you crossed by foot. After that a shuttle van drove us the rest of the way into the mine.

Ramsey had a great time running free on the bridge!

The van dropped us off at the end of the town and we headed toward the mine.

It was overcast but still so beautiful!

Real life parenting while on vacation. It was really windy and cold so the girls were not loving that! (And neither was I!)

A look at the mine-it was incredible!

Some of the buildings were open and they had displays set up in there with tons of extra information. Others were closed so we just walked around the outside.

The mountains in the background were so beautiful!

I don't remember many of the facts but basically one day everyone just got up and left. They left all the equipment! It was crazy to see. It took them years to build including getting the railroad ALL the way out there, and then it was no longer profitable and they left it all.

We took a little walk through the forest before calling it a day!

Seriously I need to write these blog posts sooner because I already forgot so many facts I learned while we were there! It was crazy to see-you will just have to go see it for yourself! :)
We headed back to rest up one more night at our resort.

We stopped for dinner at Nummys. There was a huge dog in the entrance Ramsey just wanted to play with the whole time! I remember taking a picture of the gas station across the street because it looked like it was straight out of the 1950s, but I can't find the picture anymore...But if you are near Copper Center make sure you go check it out! Their cinnamon rolls looked unreal good!
