Surprise Visit Home

Hello friends!! I see it has been nearly a month since I posted something! :S I will get you filled in over the next couple weeks. I feel like I have been saying that a lot lately... Our biggest excitement was a couple weeks ago. My mom was planning a little party to celebrate her 50th birthday party so my dad decided to plan a little surprise and flew us back home for the weekend! It was a whirlwind trip, but what isn't in our lives?! We took off early Saturday morning, and the sunrise was gorgeous peeking out above the mountains! (Hard to see, just take my word!)

We arrived at the airport, and they told us to park in the hangar! :O

We went back with a few other former Bertrand-ites that are now Phoenicians.

We brought the donuts!

Buckled up and ready to go!

Again, pretty cool view!

We flew right over Bertrand!

We landed and Nolan picked us up. He had a couple errands to run so we went with him. My dad brought my mom and Atlee and met us a one of the stores. It was such a fun surprise!! We ran a few errands, then drove down to see Jadyn at college and bring her back with us! My best friend, Angela, just happened to be in Seward watching her sister at the track meet!! We got to chat for a few minutes which just added to my perfect day! Then we headed to the lake to help prepare for the party.

Matt was planning to go jet skiing and wanted to bring his swimsuit...

This is what he wore instead!

Looked plenty cold to me!

Sunday was National Siblings Day. It was pretty cool to be with all my siblings on the day!

The party was Sunday night so we were there for supper then had to take off. We headed back, and the red carpet was laid out for us! ;)

It was such a great weekend, and I hope everyone enjoyed the surprise! I was definitely in need for a weekend home. Can't wait until we are back again! :)

I am back!

You know you haven't blogged in a long time when your dad tweets about it! I am back! Yes, we have been a little busy, but mostly my computer has been acting very strange especially when I was getting online. I have been avoiding using it for a while! But I THINK Matt has fixed it. What a wonderful husband! I'm so glad he is interested in fixing all the things I am not! So I think it is about time I filled you in after my unexpected leave of absence.

Well a few weeks ago we decided to buy a Keurig. We had picked up a coupon for one at the Super Bowl festivities and went for it! I don't care for coffee so maybe it seems a little silly to buy a coffee maker...Here was my first brew!

We love it!! I am surprised how often it gets used (more than once a day).

We have also been working on a few house projects. We finally finished our window benches with pillows! We ended up making all of them (except the detailed ones in the middle).

Come on over and take a sit! It is a fun little reading nook. :)

I also missed Valentine's Day on here. We got some of our favorite BoSa Donuts!!

Other than that, we have been soaking up the sun with hikes on most weekends.

We have been frequenting South Mountain since it has so many trails and is the closest mountain to our house. We usually see less than 10 people which is nice to not have to fight the crowds!

We have also been enjoying citrus at the end of its season. We have had lots of fresh squeezed lemonade off our own tree. I enjoy adding a frozen tangelo cube to spice up my water. We also have gotten tons of grapefruit from my grandparents and Matt's cousins. It's been so great!

I have also been trying our some more new recipes. We tried these simple cinnamon rolls the other day. Matt has already requested them again! As always, you can find them on my Pinterest page!

What a quick update!! More to come soon!

A week of strawberries

Hi friends! Long time, no chat. We have been somewhat busy doing boring adult things. Not much fun to share. Let me fill you in.

Last Friday we celebrated National Donut Day by trying out a new wave of doughnut shops-Fractured Prune. We watched them bake the doughnut right in front of us, and then we chose the icing and topping. My favorite was probably s'mores, but the strawberry shortcake was a close second. So yummy!

Last Saturday we volunteered with some of Matt's colleagues at Feed My Starving Children.

We spent one quick hour putting food together and filling them into boxes as fast as we could. We had a great time.

Our group packed over 100 boxes to send overseas to malnourished children.

Last night we went to Usery Mountain Pass for a Full Moon Hike under the strawberry moon. We took a two mile hike and had a ton of fun. The full moon was awesome, and I even walked with the moon guiding us without a flashlight for a while!

Some of our friends brought a black light and we were able to see some real live scorpions. It was our first encounter with scorpions and hopefully I don't ever get any closer to them than that! I didn't know some of them grew that big! And look at how they glow.

This is my last week of fieldwork, and then I fill be done with school forever!!! I cannot believe it! I will be studying for boards, and then no more studying! It's hard to believe the end of this long, difficult, rewarding journey is almost here.
Also we have started making our own wine from strawberries! It should be done in a few weeks. I will be sure to let you know how it turns out! Stay tuned for some new recipes coming soon! :)
